Even if you select cloud only, it will download a file you try to access in Lightroom as needed. With OneDrive, you can choose which folders/files you want to keep stored locally in addition to the cloud. The only way I can think of, and I used to do this, is to use OneDrive (or another service that allows the following). *I also just bought a second SSD to use as an off-site backup that I plan to refresh every month or after a major outing, giving me my third pillar of backing up (SSD that stays with me, Backblaze, SSD that stays off-site)
I then take my external SSD with me when traveling so I still have access to all my RAW files and have the piece of mind that they're backed up Once I'm home and certain everything is backed up to Backblaze, I delete the files off my internal drive and move the memory card(s) to the "ready to use" side of my holder Set aside that card and use a fresh one the next day that's another tempory backup process for when I don't have good internet to backup to Backblaze until I get home Shoot away and then download to my internal drive and external SSD via Lightroom Import (I use the internal drive as a temporary backup) Start a day with a freshly formatted memory card Since it's SSD, it's super fast and can be punted across a parking lot without worry of moving parts breaking. This setup will likely not work for a pro's busy workflow, but it works for me.Īlso, perhaps a silly question but have you just considered getting an external SSD drive that you take with you everywhere? This allows me to edit in Classic on my desktop, and access those edited files on CC on all of my devices, and minimizes file duplication on my system. This directory is currently backed up via Apple Time Capsule (and I'm looking into a cloud backup system as a redundancy, but haven't decided on a provider yet)Ģ) Upload those that make the cut into Lightroom CC so that they're stored on the cloud and available across devicesģ) Sync Lightroom Classic with the cloud catalog for typical editing, and I do not permanently store versions again. This directory is not connected in any way to the Adobe suite to minimize the possibility of accidental erasure. I'm an amateur and have it set it up this way:ġ) Download photos from camera into separate file system on an external SSD on my imac. I have a 2tb plan for iCloud, and 100gb for Adobe. I'd ideally like access to the cloud photos if I'm away from home, so I can work on them remotely, but not taking up space by syncing to the hard drive. If I use iCloud or the Adobe cloud, it's going to sync the photos to my local hard drive, which becomes a problem of space.

I have around 80-90gigs of my own photos, and another 20-odd gigs of weddings I did for people from a church (they aren't pro gigs, just helping low income families). Network speed/data isn't an issue here, just size. I'm trying to figure out the best solution for cloud storage of the raw files. I have been sorting my catalogues and external drives (I copy my photos to two separate drives) and I much prefer to use Lightroom Classic. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I'm going to ask.
